PCOD /PCOS has become a very common problem among young women these days. Due to busy work schedules, stressful life and unhealthy life style, we are becoming more susceptible to lifestyle diseases such as Diabetes, Hypertension, obesity and PCOD /PCOS.

Studies have shown that girls who are already overweight or obese are more likely to develop PCOD once they hit puberty or child bearing age. Polycystic ovarian disease/syndrome is a hormonal imbalance in female body during child bearing age. Today one in every ten women in the world is suffering with PCOD. Due to imbalance of reproductive hormones ovaries lose their normal function and rather than producing normal ova fluid filled cyst start to develop. It causes irregularity of periods, pain in abdomen and at times the cysts need to be surgically removed.

PCOD makes it difficult for women to conceive and if not treated it may lead to infertility as well.

Causes: The exact cause of PCOD is not known. The underlying reason of PCOD is high level of male hormone in female body.

Hereditary – If the women in your family have a history of PCOD, then chances are you too might get diagnosed with this health issue.

Low-grade inflammation – When women have low-grade inflammation, it stimulates ovaries to produce androgens, leading to PCOD.
